Alex MacFarlane is a postdoctoral scholar working on the circulation of the Alexander Romance and other works of fiction in and beyond the Caucasus, examining their textual connections in the medieval and early modern periods, with a particular interest in how they represent remote regions at the edges of the world. As an ONGC fellow, Alex will focus on two texts – the legendary history of Alexander the Great (the Armenian History of Alexander of Macedon, the Georgian Alexandriani) and the tale of the City of Brass (the Armenian History of the City of Brass, the Georgian Spilendziskalakiani) – in order to understand direct relationships between them in Armenian and Georgian, as well as the mediating role of Persian literature.
