Having completed my MPhil at the Oriental Institute of Oxford University in 2013, I became one of the creators of the Oxford Nizami Ganjavi Centre which started off as the the Oxford Nizami Ganjavi Programme. As an Azeri student, born in Baku, it is a great honour to be working for the first academic institution in the UK that is dedicated to the study of Azerbaijan, the Caucasus, and Central Asia. The Centre is proud to be part of the University of Oxford where academics from all backgrounds are invited to do research on the history, languages and cultures of Azerbaijan, the Caucasus and Central Asia. One of the latests achievements of the Centre has been its Azerbaijani language programme, making the University of Oxford the first educational institution to teach Azerbaijani in the UK. BBC Azeri has recently published a short video about our language programme.
