Nagihan Gür

Nagihan Gür is Associate Professor in the Department of Turkish Language and Literature at Social Sciences University of Ankara (ASBU), Turkey. She received her BA degree from the Department of Turkish Language and Literature at Istanbul University in 2006, and from the Department of Persian Language and Literature, where she enrolled in the double major program in 2007. In the summer of 2007, she attended the Persian Language Teaching Program at Allâme Tabatabâi University (Tehran) as a scholarship student. She completed her master’s degree at Bilkent University in the Department of Turkish Literature with a master thesis entitled “Latîfî’nin Eleştirel Perspektifinden Osmanlı Divan Şiirinin Poetikası” in 2009. In the same year, she started her PhD at Balıkesir University, Department of Turkish Language and Literature. She was awarded with the Turkish Language Association (TDK) and TUBITAK Doctoral Research Fellowships in 2013. She was a visiting doctoral student in the Department of Near East Languages and Civilizations at University of Chicago in 2013. In 2014, she received her doctorate degree with a PhD thesis entitled “Klasik Türk EdebiyatındaTakriz”. In 2016, she was a visiting scholar in the History Department at Cambridge University where she conducted research on her book project about the Scottish Ottomanist E. J. W. Gibb and his private papers. She worked in several archives and library collections in Scotland and England. In her ongoing project, Gür analyses Gibb’s library, private papers, marginalia and correspondence in order to understand his writing process and translation practices, with special focus on his monumental work A History of Ottoman Poetry. Dr. Gür is currently working on a series of articles and is writing a biography of Gibb and to this end is still analysing his original materials. Dr. Gür is the author of the books Tutinâme (2014) and Hikâyenin Hikâyesi (Osmanlı’da Bir Kadın Anlatısı: Afîfe Hanım Sergüzeşti) (2020) and the editor of İskender Pala Armağanı (2021).
